Say hello to the
Outreach for Artists Playbook
An honest, updated system for getting your work in front of the right people, built specifically for commercial illustrators and artists who are ready to stop waiting to be discovered.
Does this sound like you?
You know you should be doing outreach, but every time you sit down to write an email, you go completely blank.
You've tried cold outreach before, sent a few emails, heard nothing back, and quietly gave up.
You're not sure if your portfolio is ready—and that uncertainty has been your excuse not to start.
You don't know who to contact, what to say, or how many times to follow up before it gets weird.
You're tired of the feast or famine cycle and want a more consistent, sustainable way to get work
You want honest advice that reflects how the industry actually works right now—not a recycled playbook from five years ago.
what's inside the Outreach for artists Playbook
Outreach doesn't have to feel scary, salesy, or soul-crushing. This playbook gives you a real, honest system—one that works with your personality, your capacity, and the current market.
An honest look at what's changed about cold outreach (and what that means for you)
Response rates are down. Inboxes are crowded. This guide doesn't pretend otherwise. Instead, it gives you a realistic picture of cold outreach in 2026 and how to approach it with the right expectations.
A simple warm outreach system that keeps you top of mind without feeling pushy
The incredibly simple email system I use to stay connected with past clients and warm leads, and why this is the single most valuable outreach habit you can build.
How to make yourself findable without becoming a content creator (if you don't want to be!)
Passive outreach strategies that work in the background while you focus on making work, including how to know which platforms are actually bringing clients to you.
The strategic passion project: how to create your own opportunities
How to use strategic self-initiated work to attract the exact kind of clients you want.
A complete outreach system that fits your real life
How to build sustainable habits across all four of my approaches without burning out (including a neurodivergent-friendly framework that reduces decision fatigue and makes it easier to actually start.
My actual cold outreach email copy with a full breakdown of why every line works
Not a fictional example, and not a fill-in-the-blank template. I show you the real email I use today to pitch brands like Garnier, Target, and Snapchat, with annotations explaining the thinking behind each line so you can write your own.
Supplemental resources to help you put it all into practice
Including a pre-outreach checklist, annotated email copy example, a warm outreach email cheat sheet, a recommended tools list, and prospect tracker.

About the Author
Jessica Molina
Hi, I'm Jessica! I'm a commercial illustrator and lettering artist with years of hands-on experience getting work through outreach, relationships, and showing up consistently. I've cold pitched brands, built warm lead systems, and created strategic passion projects that led to some of my biggest client relationships, including work with CASETiFY, The Los Angeles Times, Mixbook, and more.
This guide is based on what I've actually done, what's changed, and what I've had to completely rethink as the industry has shifted. I created the Outreach for Artists Playbook because the advice I was seeing out there wasn't honest about how hard outreach has gotten—and artists deserve better than a recycled playbook that stopped working years ago.
My goal is simple: to give you a real, sustainable system for getting work—one that fits your life, your personality, and the market as it actually exists right now.
Brands I've Worked with
If getting more consistent work is on your list this year, this is your sign.
This playbook gives you the honest, practical system to finally stop spinning your wheels and start making real moves.
